Beauty & The Beast 2020

Beauty & The Beast 2020

The story of Beauty and the Beast has been made famous by Disney and the recent release has ensured it is a story everyone knows from an early age.

Based on a fairy tale published in 1740 by Gabrielle -Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, Beauty and the Beast is not a story traditionally associated with pantomime. However, as a fairytale as old as time it does translate well with a clear battle between good and evil. An unusual twist on the pantomime style is that it is a heroine, rather than a hero, at the centre of the story. The Prince is transformed into a beast with a spell that can only be broken if he is able to find true love. Disgusted by his appearance he hides away from the world. An intruder is taken prisoner by the angry Beast but released in exchange for his beautiful daughter, with the Beast seeing a chance to break the spell. Act One ends with the villagers vowing to storm  the  castle  to rescue her.

Will the Beast be defeated or can his loyal furniture help him find true love in time?

The story ends in a traditional pantomime style, with a grand celebration
